COVID-19 – OPTIONS AT BAY ISLAND GOLF CLUB
– MAY 2020
As of 1 April 2020, Queensland Health and Golf Australia have both advised that golf courses can be opened for golf, providing:
- Social distancing rules are diligently applied
- Alcohol is not consumed on the course.
Bay Island Golf Club recommends you stay at home for the health and safety of yourself and the broader community.
Should you decide to play, you must abide by the rules. If you do not you and the Club will suffer heavy penalties. The club may be put in the position of fines or closure and you may be fined or suspended from the Club. If you are in any doubt about the situation please contact the Club on 07 3409 5299 ext 3 between 11am and 3pm seven days per week.
The course will be marshalled daily. Please ensure that the club has your up to date mobile and email address so that we can keep you informed with information as it comes to hand. Email Laurie (Club Captain ) firstname.lastname@example.org or myself (President) at email@example.com
Please remember, that as of Thursday 30 April 2020, the Club will be open daily from 10:30am to 5:30pm for pre-packaged and alcohol takeaway sales. There is a good range of soft drinks and mixers, as well as, snacks such as chips, nuts and cashews. Before you purchase online from a major retailer, think about supporting your Club!
We are aware that many of you are missing the interaction and socialisation of playing golf. These are uncertain times. The following resources are available online:
Once again Stay safe, we will all come through this together.
Gail Spann, President
On behalf of the committee I would like to update all our members on the running of the Golf Club through these testing times. I am pleased to report that the club is financially very healthy and would like to thank all our members for continuing to support us.
Bay Islands Golf Club AGM
Because the Club has to wait for stage two of the COVID19 restrictions the Bay Islands Golf Club AGM will now be held on Sunday 12 July 2020 at 10.30am. Nomination forms can now be collected from the bar and all nominations will be posted on the noticeboard. The positions up for
nomination are President, Vice President, Committee Secretary,
Treasurer, Club Captain, Ladies Captain and four positions on
committee. If you are wishing to nominate for a position can you please
have accompanying your nomination form a description of why you wish to
nominate, what qualifications you have and what you can bring to the
committee. All members nominating for committee will be subject to a
police check. While there has been a small remuneration for some of the
above positions, these are generally volunteer positions and are taken
on by people that wish the best for their club and feel that they have
something to contribute. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
the outgoing committee for the effort that they have put in to running
the Clubhouse and the Course under some very difficult circumstances at
times such as our present situation with COVID19 and wish all the best
to the incoming committee.
Gail Spann – President.
Competitions are up and running although still with restrictions. We
can now play in groups of four still of course with social distancing
and if in a buggy then one person per buggy unless you are from the same
household. There are time starts on the mixed and mens competition
days from 7.30am and the sheets are on the DOSA deck area each day at
the clubhouse for you to put your name down. There will be a shot gun start for Ladies comp on Tuesdays you may either contact Zan Howe or there will be a sign on sheet on the DOSA deck.
The flag is still to stay in the hole and their will be no rakes in the bunkers so you may
have a preferred lie. If you have any other queries please contact our
Club Captain Laurie Fleming who is happy to help.
Unfortunately for our social members the clubhouse is still closed to entertainment, dining and the pokies, but I’m sure like myself we will be planning a big party for when the doors open back up on a Friday night. In the meantime everyone in the office has been working hard organising all the paperwork for the audit which should be completed shortly, as well as the day to day running of the club.
Once again thank you to everyone for your continued support, stay safe and hopefully things will return to normal in the near future.
